Besançon's stations and the airports around the city
Besançon has two stations. Besançon Franche-Comté TGV station, in Les Auxons, about 10 km north of the city, has been on the Rhine-Rhône high-speed line since 2011: Paris is just over two hours away, and TGV trains also run to Lyon, Strasbourg and Marseille. Besançon-Viotte station, close to the centre, handles TGV trains from Paris via Dijon, regional TER services and trains to La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland. TER shuttles link the two stations roughly every hour; with a chauffeur, you go straight from the TGV station to your address. Give your train number when you book: your chauffeur follows your actual arrival time.
Besançon has no commercial airport. The nearest is Dole-Jura (DLE), about 50 km away, with a handful of routes, including seasonal flights to Corsica. For international flights, travellers use EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse (about 160 km), Geneva (about 170 km) or Lyon-Saint-Exupéry (about 220 km), all available at a fixed price (see the sample prices above). Give your flight number when you book: your chauffeur tracks your actual landing time. As an option, your driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign.
You can follow your flight or train live on our flight tracking and train tracking pages.
Business travel, meetings and conferences (MICE)
Historically the cradle of French watchmaking, Besançon is today a hub for microtechnology, precision engineering and luxury. Micropolis, 3 boulevard Ouest, is its main meeting place: 15 meeting rooms for 10 to 670 people, an amphitheatre seating up to 2,150 and 20,000 m² of exhibition halls. It hosts the Micronora international microtechnology fair and, every spring in May, the Foire Comtoise.
For companies, agencies and event organisers:
- transfers between the stations, the airports, hotels and event venues, in sedans and vans;
- chauffeur by the hour or by the day, on request, for site visits or back-to-back meetings;
- corporate account with monthly invoicing and negotiated rates;
- Factur-X (EN 16931) electronic invoices and the carbon footprint of every ride, calculated with the ADEME method.
For an event or regular volume, tell us what you need on our business and partners page.
Extend your stay: Vauban, watchmaking, Comté and Jura wines
One more day in the area after your meetings? Besançon and its surroundings appeal to lovers of heritage, fine watchmaking and good food. A few ideas with a chauffeur.
- Vauban's citadel: it towers over the loop of the Doubs that holds the historic centre. Together with Vauban's other fortifications, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008. Its 11 hectares house the Museum of the Resistance and Deportation and a natural history museum with a zoo and an aquarium.
- Time and the arts: the Musée du Temps, in the Palais Granvelle since 2002, tells the story of watchmaking; the astronomical clock in Saint-Jean Cathedral, completed in 1860, has more than 30,000 parts and 57 dials (stopped while awaiting restoration, it can be visited with a guide). The Musée des Beaux-Arts et d'Archéologie, founded in 1694 and regarded as the oldest public museum in France, reopened in 2018 after renovation.
- The Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans, south-west of Besançon: designed by the architect Claude-Nicolas Ledoux and begun in 1775, it has been a World Heritage Site since 1982, joined by the Great Saltworks of Salins-les-Bains in 2009.
- Ornans and the Loue valley: the Musée Courbet is housed in the painter's birthplace on the riverbank, reopened in 2011.
- Jura wine country: Château-Chalon, perched on its cliff and listed among the most beautiful villages of France, gives its name to a vin jaune appellation.
For local flavours, Franche-Comté means Comté cheese, Morteau sausage, cancoillotte and, in the cold season, Mont d'Or. In September, the International Music Festival brings the city to life. For visitors from further afield, including Asia, the trip extends easily to Geneva, Basel or Paris, and we drive you door to door.
